Step 1 – Niche Websites
Many of you reading this page will already have an established business or have a great idea for a website. But if you don’t, don’t worry, everyone knows something about something.
There are plenty of excellent niche business ideas where the competition is low or almost non-existent.
What’s a Niche website?
A niche website has a central theme on which you base all of your site’s content. The key to success on the Net for the small business owner is to master an in-demand niche. With a niche-focused business, your competition will be lower and it will be easier for targeted, interested visitors to find your website.
The first step is defining your niche.
Develop the best site theme based on what you know and love…perhaps a hobby or past work experience, or have you solved a problem everyone has? Writing about something that you have a passion for isn’t work, but becomes a pleasure and your content will shine!
It’s really important to “niche it” because you can easily generate content based on your own experiences with the websites theme. The more you know about your niche, the more credible you will appear to your audience.
Providing a credible source of information means that your readers will come back for more info, and while they are there, click on a google ad sense ad or affiliate link or fill out a form that generates a sales lead.
The narrower your niche the better. Smaller niches have less competition, so you have a greater chance of being found by the search engines.
Write down ideas for website themes as they hit you. Everyone has a special interest. Everyone knows something that is of value to others. Figuring out your niche is the first step in building a successful online business. Your website should be built around a single niche. Your websites content should provide solutions to problems or concerns that your readers may have.
Find your target market.
Niche finding is the first step of creating a website. Don’t rush through this step. This free video from SBI covers niche finding in depth. Click on the Day 2 video.
A niche website’s theme should be in demand, meaning a reasonable number of people must be searching for information about your chosen topic. If your theme is too narrow, not enough of a market will be searching for information. If your theme is too broad, say “vacation” or “travel” the competition for these keywords will be brutal.
What’s a keyword?
A keyword is merely the topic for the content of a Web page. All the other words on that page are “content”… information about that specific keyword/topic. This keyword is how google finds your new web page, and the pages with your content are referred to as KFCP’s (Keyword Focused Content Pages).
Keywords are the words people are typing into search engines every day to search for information. Information is what people are searching for.
Just like the realtor whose mantra is “Location, Location, Location”, you and your website should concentrate on “Information, Information, Information”.
What you want are high demand keywords related to your site’s theme. High demand keywords are words that have a high number of searches by web surfers. Ideally, these keywords should have a low supply, meaning there aren’t that many web pages created around them.
How do you know if you have a keyword that meets the above criteria? Use these online tools:
